Game three of the campaign, ‘Landing Expedition’, had the British attempting to land boats on the French shore. Stiu and I would sail from the Southeast to intercept. The British cannily split their ships on the approach, leading to the French becoming sandwiched between them. This resulted in several raking shots! In retrospect we should have sailed closer to shore and interposed ourselves between the British and their target.
Both of the French ships took a major battering! My flagship was the first of the two to strike colours… having first caught fire and then extinguished it. Stiu’s command managed to get between the boats and the beach, but his ship was severely damaged and soon struck too. The French slipped away, but the British had achieved their mission and landed troops in France. Merde!
