The orders were clear. Lectitio Deodandus and Cranium Occidendum were to direct their launchers at the enemy Warlord named Harvest of Sorrow. The aim was simple; strip its shields to allow Deodandus’ Volcano to finish the enemy. There was a score to settle: it had brought many Mortis engines down when it and many other titans from its legio had turned away from the Warmaster. Fools! The Legio Mortis Warhounds were tasked with closing the distance and harrying Sorrow’s support. Princep Seniores Harklorn knew no plan was ever executed flawlessly, but this plan was good.

Patience was the unwritten part of the plan. They had to let the enemies close on them first. The Warhounds would then, and only then, use their speed to get in the way of, or preferably flank, the Reavers.

When Harvest of Sorrows came into auspex range all of the launchers swung to greet it. The trails from Deodandus and Occidendum arced, converged and slammed into the target, bright flashes signalling the fall of void shields before the auspex could register the telltale fluctuations. At least step one of the plan had gone well… he waited to see what the enemy’s plan was as he ordered reactor power diverted to the Volcano.

John and I played a 1500pt game of AT last weekend. He fielded Legio Metalica with a Warlord, two Reavers and a Warhound. My Legio Mortis force consisted of a Warlord, a Reaver and three Warhounds (two of which were squadroned). The above bit of fiction gives an idea of my plan. The only deviation was that two of my Warhounds pounced on the enemy Warhound while avoiding lines of fire from the larger titans.

The moment of the game involved John’s Warlord, Harvest of Sorrows, having taken a load of damage to its head being swarmed by two Warhounds and my Reaver. The Warlord focussed fire on my Reaver severely damaging it in turn. Another of his Reavers, ignoring a Warhound that had engaged it, riddled my beleaguered Reaver, taking it out!

His Warlord didn’t last long and my maniple began mopping up the rest. He was left with one Reaver in the end, Creeping Death.

Mortis had retaken this piece of Nyrcon city.

Until next time,

Owen
