Sculpting your own bases with Green Stuff

I’ve been working on my Privateers for about a month now and they are coming along nicely. Most of them are on custom resin bases that I bought with the miniatures. These bases represent wooden and stone piers, but I’ve run out and am waiting for a consignment of bases before I can start work [...]

Learning to play Hordes: Part 3 (Battle Report)

Last night the talking stopped and the fighting started. There is no better way to learn a game, faction or new warlock than to dive straight in and get some games in. Anthony brought his 35pt Cryx force up to the house. This was my chance to try out the list and tactics I posted [...]

Learning to play Hordes: Part 2

From the last post we learned two things – I can’t play Hordes (certainly not using the delicate warlocks) and I can write a lot of Hordes Theory. Now it’s time to go from talking to doing. I have a game later this evening and I’m making up the army list. Saeryn will be my [...]

Learning to play Hordes: Part 1

So, what better time to learn to play Hordes than when Warmachine MkII is released!? I’ve had my Legion army since Hordes was initially released, but it’s been more of a painting project than an army. I don’t need to learn the rules, I know them and am an accomplished Warmachine player, but I do [...]

Why can’t I play Hordes?

Saeryn’s powers couldn’t keep the Carnivean from crumbling to the onslaught from Kaelyssa and a Hydra. She could feel it’s fury being turned against it by the Iosan ‘caster. The Archers were dying in droves to her right and the Legionnaires were all but wiped out. She knew her only chance was to hit Kaelyssa [...]

Playing Warmachine and Hordes Online using VASSAL

Imagine playing a tabletop game against an opponent over 1000km away. That’s what I did last night! OVERVIEW Okay, I’m a little behind the curve on this, but I had my first online game of Warmachine using Vassal. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s a program that let’s you play a large [...]

Thagrosh vs Xerxis (35pt MkII Battle Report)

With the release of the MkII Field Test for Hordes I’ve been looking forward to getting some games in. I’m not a particularly good Hordes player, but I wanted to see how the Legion had fared with the rules changes. I should probably qualify what ‘not particularly good’ means. Around Dublin, and in Ireland generally, [...]

Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew: Complete

These have to be the easiest paint job I’ve done in a while. I painted them using a similar technique to Eiryss and used the Citadel Foundation paints on the flesh (Orkhide Shade and Knarloc Green). I then washed it with Thraka Green. Owen

Tournament Check List

I’ve played in lots of tournaments, mostly Warhammer, but also Warmachine and Hordes. It’s easy to forget something vital when packing up for a tournament, so here are my check lists. Here’s my Warhammer tournament check list – 1. Army (Miniatures, Movement Trays) 2. Dice (D6s, Scatter, Artillery, Turn Counter) 3. Templates (Flame and two [...]

Building Armies using Army Builders!

I’ve been using three army builders of late, Forward Kommander, Warmachine & Hordes Builder and iBodger. Both are excellent tools. Forward Kommander is a web-based army builder that manages your collection and is primarily focused on MkII and until the Hordes MkII release only supports Warmachine. The collection management support is very nice and enables [...]
