Cryx Mechanithralls and Bile Thralls: Complete
Yesterday was a big painting day (6 hours!). I managed to finish two (minimum) units of Mechanithralls and Bile Thralls. I have yet to base them, but I’ll wait to do that when the next two units are painted (Bane Thralls and Bane Knights). Here’s one of the Bile Thralls -
The technique was fairly straight forward – I did the flesh, then the bone, next the piping and gloves, then the ‘iron’ metal and then finally the gun. Colours used on the flesh were P3 Greatcoat Grey with P3 Khadoran Flesh (4:1) as the base coat with increasing amounts of GW Kommando Khaki added for highlights. I washed it after all other colours were finished with a 3:1 blend of Citadel Asurmen Blue and Badab Black (this same wash covered the metal on the body). The bone was basecoated in GW Scorched Brown, then drybrushed with GW Snakebite Leather with increasing amounts of GW Bleached Bone up to pure Bleached Bone.
The piping was just basecoated in Shadow Grey (I’d leave it to the wash to add a little depth) and the gloves are GW Scorched Brown with a GW Snakebite Leather highlight. The ‘iron’ was painted with GW Boltgun Metal mixed with GW Chaos Black (3:1) and then highlighted with Boltgun Metal. Finally, the gun was basecoated with P3 Brass Balls, leaving some parts in the black undercoat. It was then highlighted using GW Mithril Silver.
The Mechanithralls were painted in pretty much the same colours (as you can see here blue is a subtle theme in the army) with the addition of GW Gore Red for the … well … red gory bits.
The second unit of Bane Thralls are next. I’ll paint them in more-or-less the same colour as my first unit for consistency.
